STILL LIFES AND INTERIOR SCENES

As with his portraiture, Cummings' talent as a craftsman comes to the fore in his still life work, revealing painstaking detail and attention to his subject. A large number of still lifes are represented in the collection, mostly painted in oil and primarily of flowers. However, he also painted numerous interior scenes of his home both in Patchin Place, New York and in Paris. This work reveals a settled and domestic Cummings who was able to devote a good amount of time to his craft.
